What is a code/cipher?

A code (in this context) is essentially text that has been hidden/changed in some way shape or form. A cipher is a method of doing this by changing the text so it must be changed back to be understood.

Why codes and ciphers on this page?

Codes are a popular mechanic of many ARGs that you could call recent, and therefore I decided to add them here to help others who find this site.

Why are codes in ARGs?

Codes are in ARGs (to my knowledge) are a simple and effective thing to add to an ARG to add an immersive factor to it, making the player feel like they are doing something that impacts the story as it often does.

How many codes are there?

That's something I cannot answer, and just say there are a vast amount of them ranging from popular to obscure to custom made by puppetmasters.
